Festive Fun For All Ages
From light displays to theatrical performances set to entertain audiences of all ages, holiday fun for the family comes at no shortage in Lehigh Valley. Explore these must-see happenings that are sure to add an extra dose of smiles to last the whole season long.
Take in millions of twinkling lights. Lehigh Valley is home to three outstanding light displays, all fit for a perfect multi-generational excursion. For walk-through displays, head to the Lehigh Valley Zoo for their annual Winter Light Spectacular. Be sure to stop and say hello to the reindeer!
If you prefer to stick together inside the warmth of your vehicle, consider adding a trip to Allentown’s Lights in the Parkway to your holiday itinerary. This local must-see winds through over a mile of Lehigh Parkway, one of the region’s most treasured parks. No visit to these festive displays is complete without a stop to see Santa & the chance to warm up with some hot cocoa!
For a shopping trip that the kids will also be into, head to Christkindlmarkt Bethlehem. Here, you’ll be able to find unique gift items under the warmth of heated tents. Little ones will love watching craftsmen at work creating hand-carved wooden tops, seeing ornaments come to life with live glass blowing demonstrations, and witnessing ice carvers at work. Be sure to visit the traditional St. Nicholas for an unforgettable photo opportunity.
Choo choo! The holidays are the perfect time to take in some of the region’s most impressive model train displays including the ever-popular Holiday Train Open House at Lehigh & Keystone Valley Model Railroad Museum. If you want to experience a real-life train ride, look no further than the Colebrookdale Railroad (various dates in November and December) or the Allentown & Auburn Railroad's Santa Train Rides, both offering rides on historic train cars featuring guest appearances by Santa and Mrs. Claus.
Perhaps your family is in the mood for a show? Check local theatres for a variety of performances, from Miller Symphony Hall, Touchstone Theatre, and the State Theatre for the Performing Arts. For a unique local experience, make your way to the Liberty Bell Museum in Allentown for Christmas with Pip the Mouse, dates to be determined.
