Wildlands Conservancy – Walk in Penn’s Woods: Stewardship in Action

Overview

Join Wildlands Conservancy, Berks Nature, and the Pennsylvania Bureau of Forestry for a special Walk in Penn’s Woods experience at Berks Nature’s Dent-Gundry Property.

This guided hike offers a unique opportunity to explore permanently protected farmland and forest in Berks County and learn from conservation professionals about the planning, partnerships, and hands-on stewardship required to care for these special places. Along the way, discover how a property’s history, ecological conditions, and conservation goals come together to shape long-term land management.

Participants will gain insight into the challenges and opportunities involved in stewarding protected lands, as well as practical ideas for becoming better stewards of the land in their own communities. Learn how thoughtful conservation and land management practices can improve habitat, protect natural resources, and create healthier landscapes for both wildlife and people.

The program is part of Walk in Penn’s Woods, a statewide event that encourages people across Pennsylvania to explore and appreciate the Commonwealth’s forests while learning more about their ecological, cultural, and recreational value.

Hike Details
- Distance: Approximately 2 miles
- Difficulty: Challenging
- Terrain: Uneven, undeveloped trails with elevation changes
- Recommended: Hiking boots, long pants, and trekking poles
- Pets: Permitted if well-mannered and kept on leash in accordance with applicable laws
- Everyone is welcome!

Due to the challenging terrain and elevation changes, participants should be comfortable hiking approximately two miles on uneven, undeveloped trails.
