Overview
The Baum School of Art is excited to present The Baum Legacy: A Centennial Exhibition. As we celebrate 100 years of The Baum School of Art throughout the 2026 year, we pay tribute to the legacy of our founder, Walter Emerson Baum and his far-reaching impact as an artist and art educator. This exhibition features artwork by Walter Baum, his students, and members of his family, including, but not limited to: Edgar Baum, Harvey Baum, Marian Baum Grim, Nolan P. Benner, Jr., John E. Berninger, Clarence Dreisbach, Lee Everett, Ellen Grim Harter, R. Charlotte Treichler Harris, Ann Elaine Harris, Walter Mattern, Grace Whitehead Phillips, D. A. Scheiber, Richard Schantz, Alvena Seckar, Melville Stark, Bette Treichler, Jerry Quier, Ann Yost Whitesell, Jeanne Wolf, and Kenneth Wolf.
The school has three brand new galleries which holding the over 100 pieces of artwork in this exhibition. You’ll see wood carvings of wildlife created by Walter’s father, Harvey; surreal animals by Walter’s son, Edgar, and gorgeous landscapes by Ann Yost Whitesell. and of course, an assortment of style and subject matter by Walter Emerson Baum. While you travel through each of the galleries, you will really see how artists struck inspiration from Walter.
The Baum School of Art is proud to continue to serve the community following in Walter’s belief that art is essential to our lives, that anyone can make art, and that everyone should have the opportunity to learn. This exhibition would not have happened without the assistance of Dr. Martha Hutson-Saxton, Judith A. Harris, and Holly Harter, as well as the Baum and Grim families.
