Overview
In honor of America’s 250th birthday and the Summer Reading theme, Unearth a Story, Lower Macungie Library is hosting a special after-hours event.
Journey back through the tavern door to April of 1775.
Candlelight flickers, tavern mugs are full, and the atmosphere is heavy with rumor and gossip. What will happen next?
The American poet Ralph Waldo Emerson called it “the shot heard ‘round the world” when a British raiding party went into Massachusetts to seize stockpiled guns and met resistance before dawn on April 19, 1775 in Lexington, Massachusetts. The colonial militia responded and the American Revolution began.
Join historian Mike Jesberger for his program, “The Conflict Ignites: The Battle of Lexington & Concord", and his unique perspective of this historic event that catapulted 13 ill divided colonies towards Independence. Jesberger will lead a discussion on the history of taverns and their role in 18th century America.
Craft beer will be served and donated by Rising River Brewery.
This program will be held in the library’s multipurpose room.
Please contact the library at programming@lowermaclib.org if you are unable to attend.
