Overview
Step back in time for an unforgettable night of Revolutionary War history, fine wine, and local storytelling during Wine & Cheese with Lafayette, presented by Historic Bethlehem Museums & Sites. On Friday, Oct. 11 at 7:30 p.m., the 1869 Luckenbach Mill in Bethlehem’s Colonial Industrial Quarter will host an exclusive evening with the Marquis de Lafayette, brought to life by acclaimed interpreter Ben Goldman.
Guests will savor a cheese course, sweets, wine, and non-alcoholic beverages while hearing the fascinating tale of how the young French hero recovered in Bethlehem after being wounded at the Battle of Brandywine in 1777. The evening includes a dynamic presentation and Q&A with Goldman—known for his authentic, engaging portrayal of Lafayette at venues like Mount Vernon and the White House—as well as photo opportunities with the Marquis in full period attire. Author Anne Supsic, whose novel The Bookmark explores Lafayette’s rumored Bethlehem romance, will also be on hand to meet guests.
For an even richer experience, join Lafayette beforehand for an intimate pre-event dinner at the historic Sun Inn on Main Street at 5:45 p.m. Dine on a historically inspired menu with wine or beer, enjoy personal conversation with Lafayette, and immerse yourself in the ambiance of an 18th-century setting.
