Sigal Museum

Overview

The Sigal Museum is Northampton County’s leading institution of local history, and home to significant collections of pre-European settlement artifacts, decorative arts, and textiles, farming implements, and colonial furniture. The Museum offers its visitors interactive exhibits, self-guided and docent-led tours, special children's programs, and a lecture series on local and American history. It is one of four museums operated by the Northampton County Historical & Genealogical Society (NCHGS) in Easton. In addition to its exhibits, the Sigal Museum is home to the Jane S. Moyer Library, providing vast and often rare resources for students, scholars, and genealogical researchers.

The Charles Chrin Changing Gallery serves as a showcase for special exhibits, highlighting collections of the Northampton County Historical & Genealogical Society and its partners.

The Museum serves as a gathering place and a cultural center, visited by youth and adults for programs in fraktur art, on Lenape Lifeways, and story-telling. Works by current regional artists have also found a home in this center for old and new history, and are highlighted on a rotating basis.

The Sigal Museum property tells an interesting history common to the evolution of old downtowns; with its design and function changing with the times: from family home to Opera House to Bridal Salon to history museum.

The Sigal Museum offers three exhibition halls, a decorative arts gallery, music room, visual gallery, and the 100-seat John Austen Auditorium. More than 6,000 volumes of county and family history are available in the Jane S. Moyer Library. Community rooms offer space for children's programs, public gatherings, and rental use for private parties, meetings, and receptions.

The museum is open Wednesday – Saturday from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. and on Sunday from 12noon – 4 p.m.; closed on major holidays.

Group Tours

Groups are always welcome. Walk-in museum tours are available without reservation; however, groups are encouraged to call in advance; groups of 15 or more will secure a group discount.

Field Trips

Education programs are available to supplement classroom curriculum, and can be tailored to meet your class goals. Teachers are encouraged to call and discuss your ideal visit. Field Trip programs are by reservation only.
