The Moravian Book Shop is the oldest continuously running bookstore in the world. The Moravian Book Shop was founded in 1745 when the Moravian Church appointed Samuel Powell of the Church’s Crown Inn on the south side of the Lehigh River to operate a book store. After operating at several locations, the Moravian Book Shop was moved to the church’s publications building near the Central Moravian Church in Bethlehem in 1871. Today, the Moravian Book Shop operates in the same site on historic Main Street situated across from Historic Hotel Bethlehem.

The Book Shop carries a wide selection of books including adult and children's titles. Our Local Interest section includes local publications about the Moravians, Bethlehem Steel, Lehigh Valley, and Pennsylvania. The children's book department features educational toys, TY Plush, and a large variety of Lego products.

Traditional Moravian gifts can be found year round including hand made beeswax candles and paper Moravian star kits. A wide variety of glass Moravian and Bethlehem stars made by local artists can be found throughout the store. Gift items made by various local artists include post cards, paintings, vases and ornaments.

Christmas ornaments and decor can be found year round featuring Old World ornaments and local artists.

In addition, the Moravian Book Shop sells and buys back student textbooks. The Book Shop also stocks Moravian University and Bethlehem apparel and themed gifts.

Whether you’re searching for the perfect gift or wanting to enjoy some time just browsing, you are sure to discover something new each time you visit the Moravian Book Shop.

Insider’s Tip: The Book Shop regularly holds signings for local and nationally-known authors. Events include children's story time, costume character reads, and book club discussions. For upcoming events please visit their Facebook page.
