The Baum School of Art
Overview
The Baum School of Art in downtown Allentown is a community non-profit visual art school with classes, summer camps, and workshops. Two galleries offer new exhibitions every month and are open to the public during normal business hours. Often the gallery space is used to host free events, such as artists' talks and sometimes even pop-up shops. The Baum School participates in the Third Thursday (an evening of arts and culture in downtown Allentown - many restaurants, galleries and stores participate), with receptions. Receptions are free, open to the public, and include light fare such as wine and cheese.
Visit their website for further details on safety practices. Check out the calendar of events here.
Virtual Programming
The Baum School created a series on online instructional art classes called "Artist-In-Your-Residence." Find these sessions on their YouTube channel, as well as shared to Facebook and Instagram.

About The Baum School
Their mission is to enrich lives through arts education and they achieve this mission through tuition classes for children, teens, and adults, and many community outreach programs. In 2016-17, the Baum School served over 4,600 students in art, design, and fashion. The programs are open to anyone who wishes to study art — the school celebrates diversity and welcomes all community members, regardless of gender, social status, race, or beliefs.
For over 90 years, the Baum School's mission has been guided by the vision of Founder, Walter Emerson Baum. He believed that art is essential to our lives, that anyone can make art, and that everyone should have the opportunity to make art. Over 350 classes, workshops, and community outreach programs are offered. Through the generosity of philanthropic community and the dedication of partners, over 3,000 of the 4,600 students served in 2016-17 participated in the school’s programs through some form of discount, scholarship, financial assistance, or as part of a community outreach program.
The Baum School of Art is proud to be located in downtown Allentown, in the heart of a district that is experiencing a renaissance. As the school grows and changes with the transforming neighborhood, their work remains the same — nurturing the creativity within all. The School has been a member of the National Guild for Community Arts Education since 1987 and is accredited by the Accrediting Commission for Community and Precollegiate Arts Schools. Since 1990, the Baum School has partnered with Lehigh Carbon Community College to offer opportunities for their students to complete their studio art classes for credit at the downtown facility.
