Museum of Indian Culture
Overview
The Museum of Indian Culture, Pennsylvania’s oldest Native American heritage museum, is a unique educational experience for the whole family to explore ancient Native American history.
Tour the Museum
- Learn about the Lenape, the ancestral inhabitants of Pennsylvania, and their lives today.
- Imagine yourself knapping tools out of stone, making cordage from plant fiber, and calling fire using ancient tools.
- See commonly traded goods among American Indians and settlers during the Fur Trade Era.
- Observe techniques, textures, colors, and patterns used by various North American tribes on authentic beadwork, pottery, basketry, and more.
Walk the Lenape Trail
The museum is situated in the beautiful Little Lehigh Parkway along an old Lenape trail called the Oley Path. While visiting the museum, families are welcomed to explore the trail, perhaps enjoy a picnic lunch, and visit the nearby Fish Hatchery. In partnership with PBS39, children can have fun with a digital “Tour and Explore” experience located throughout the Lenape Trail which features 10-year-old Molly Mabray, an Alaska Native from the PBS KIDS program MOLLY OF DENALI® and scan the codes you find along the way for more free, online fun!
Festival Not To Miss
- The Roasting Ears of Corn Festival, held during the third weekend in August, is the oldest Native American festival in eastern Pennsylvania. This annual event celebrates Native American culture through dance, music, art, food, and life ways, and features Native American award-winning recording artists, and art and jewelry vendors from across the country.
