Miracle League of Northampton County
Overview
The Miracle League of Northampton County (MLNC) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that built and operates a barrier free baseball facility for children and adults with intellectual and physical disabilities. This facility is located at the Charles Chin Community Center recreational site in Palmer Township, PA. The mission of the Miracle League of Northampton County is: “To create positive experiences for those with intellectual and physical disabilities and their families through baseball.”
Can you picture a moment when a child in a wheelchair raises up at home plate, grabs a bat, hits a ball and with assistance walks to first base playing baseball for his/her very first time? This vision is the heart for the Miracle League of Northampton County. Inspiration, courage and just having fun are the hallmarks of what occurs at every game in the spring and fall seasons for the athletes that play baseball on the Miracle League field. Since the facility was opened in the fall of 2012, the Miracle League has given children and young adults with intellectual and physical disabilities an opportunity to play baseball at a beautiful venue that is specifically designed to meet their unique needs.
The facility is a custom-designed field with a rubberized surface that is completely flat so that those in wheelchairs, walkers and other assistive devices can play the game of baseball in a safe, barrier-free environment.
The league focuses on the athletes abilities, not their disabilities and mission is to create positive life experiences for those with disabilities and their families through baseball. We celebrate their growth and accomplishments every single game. Their motto is “Every Child Deserves a Chance to Play Baseball.”
