No. 9 Mine & Museum
Visit one of the largest coal mine museums when you come to Lehigh Valley. You're invited to experience their unique Anthracite Mine Tour and Museum.
Tour a real mine that was driven in 1855 and was the oldest, longest operating Anthracite coal mine in the United Stated by the time it closed in 1972. Ride by rail 1,600 feet into the mine, then enjoy a walking tour which allows you to experience first-hand the views, paths, and adventures of a deep coal miner. See the true inner workings of one of America's oldest, deep coal mines, including the mine hospital, mule-way, mine equipment, and the Original No.9 (900’) mine elevator shaft. Then check out the museum with over 10,000 artifacts, pictures, tools, and equipment.
It's not only a tour ... it's an experience.
Tours are available Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays beginning the first weekend in May through the end of October. They depart between 11 a.m. - 11:15 a.m. and run every hour. The museum is open year-round.
