Service in Action: Health Applied | The Life of a Zen Buddhist Monk

Claude AnShin Thomas and Wiebke KenShin Andersen are mendicant monks in the Zen Soto Buddhist tradition; in addition, Claude AnShin is a veteran of the U.S. Army who served as a combat soldier during the Vietnam War, and is author of a memoir about his wartime experiences and search for healing and peacebuilding as a Buddhist monk, At Hell's Gate: A Soldier's Journey (Shambala, 2004). Claude AnShin and KenShin are dedicated to bearing witness to the suffering of war; and to speaking honestly and facing the true costs of war and violence in all their forms. Around the world, they lead retreats, offer public talks, mentor and teach, such as their peacebuilding efforts with guerilla and government representatives in Columbia; separatists in Catalan, Spain; refugees in France, and military veterans in many countries of the world.
