As part of our 2018-2019 Artist Series Kutztown Presents welcomes Rio Mira.

Rio Mira taking its name from the river that runs between their two countries, specializes in crafting contemporary music using traditional sounds. Fronted by Ecuadorian singer Karla Kanora and Colombian marimba master Esteban Copete, Rio Mira is an exciting collaboration that has become a socially conscious symbol of Afro-Pacific identity. The story of marimba is closely intertwined with rebel slaves, known as maroons, who made the region their home from the early 16th century onward. Come discover why UNESCO declared the marimba music of South Pacific Colombia and Esmeraldas Province, Ecuador to be an Intangible Cultural Heritage. Tickets available on our website or by phone.

This performance is part of the Celebrate Marimba Festival with the Center for Mallet Percussion Research at Kutztown University.

This engagement of Rio Mira is funded through Southern Exposure: Performing Arts of Latin America, a program of Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts.
