Ken Springirth Book Signing
Rail author Ken Springirth will be doing a book signing on his latest book “Reading Railroad Heritage,” during the first Return of Steam Weekend this year at the Allentown & Auburn Railroad in the Kutztown Train Station.
"Reading Railroad Heritage” is a photographic essay of the history of the Reading Railroad up to its acquisition by the Consolidated Rail Corporation in 1976, and its legacy that includes the Allentown & Auburn Railroad which inaugurated passenger excursion service in 2015 from Topton to Kutztown operating on a former Reading Railroad line.
Ken, the author of a series of books on railroads and trolley car lines including a children’s book “ABCs on the Rails,” has been researching and photographing rail lines for 60 years and plans to have 25 different books on display. His father was a streetcar motorman in Philadelphia, and his grandfather was a streetcar motorman in Washington D.C. A native of Philadelphia, he commuted to Drexel Institute of Technology (now Drexel University) in Philadelphia by trolley car, subway, and sometimes commuter rail graduating in 1962.
