Inspirations in Oil - Paintings by Dr. Abdul Wahhab
The flowers may be gone outside, but beginning November 18, they will be in full bloom at Respect Graduate School. “Inspirations in Oil” is an exhibit of 18 brand new oil paintings by Dr. Abdul Wahhab inspired by the beauty he encounters in his daily life and travels. Many are paintings of the flowers he comes across and photographs while on his travels to exotic places like Iceland, South Africa, China, and India, while others are inspired by the gorgeous spring and summer blooms found around his home in Schuylkill County.
Besides the floral paintings Dr. Wahhab is famous for, this exhibit will also showcase many rare new pieces featuring Islamic calligraphy inspired by his favorite verses from the Qur’an. Throughout these pieces, Dr. Wahhab seeks to share the beauty and inspiration that he sees all around us. Viewer’s of this exhibit are sure to be uplifted by the vibrant array of colors and the powerful use of light.
Accompanying this exhibit will also be a lecture by Dr. Abdul Wahhab, the artist, on Friday, December 6th at 6:30 p.m. at Respect Graduate School.
About the Artist
Dr. Abdul Wahhab is a retired surgeon as well as an accomplished artist who has been working with oil paints for well over 30 years.
He has been said to be a natural artist who, even as a child, was well known for his artistic ability in his hometown where he was often asked to draw images for school projects or portraits for special occasions. Even while in medical school and during his residency, he continued to hone this talent by penning illustrations for medical journals.
At the urging of his wife, Zarina, Dr. Wahhab began his formal training with oil painting in 1986. He enrolled to several classes and workshops where he sharpened his artistic techniques and acumen. Since that time, Dr. Wahhab has painted hundreds oil paintings, mostly of flowers. This is not surprising since his undergraduate education was in botany.
