In 1964 at age 24, while enrolled at Berklee School of Music as a piano major, Gene Perla was inspired by Charlie Haden and switched his focus to the upright bass. Four decades later, after playing with artists such as Nina Simone, Woody Herman, Sarah Vaughan, Elvin Jones, Thad Jones/Mel Lewis and Sonny Rollins, Perla is bringing his quintet, STAR WONDER, to Miller Symphony Hall to play music from their three recordings - "The Great Pretender," "Destiny," and "Speak No Evil."
Tickets are general admission. A cash bar will be available.
