Local author Robert Costello will present an informational workshop, “Restorative Practices: Changing Our Response to Wrongdoing” on Saturday, Jan. 26 at First Presbyterian Church of Bethlehem, 2344 Center St. The workshop, which runs from 9:00 a.m. - noon, is free and open to the public. It is appropriate for middle schoolers, young adults and adults of all ages.

Costello will define restorative justice and restorative practices and give examples of both. He will share how these practices help people resolve conflict at home, school, work, place of worship, and other environments. As the Assistant Commissioner for Organizational Development at the New York City Department of Probation, Costello will also explain how individuals or groups can make a difference for those involved in the criminal justice system.

In addition to his current role, Costello has more than 20 years of experience in the fields of mental health, drug and alcohol rehabilitation, inpatient and outpatient services and alternative education. He is the co-author of The Restorative Practices Handbook for Teachers, Disciplinarians and Administrators and Restorative Circles in Schools: Building Community and Enhancing Learning.
