It seems that lists always strike up pretty good conversation, and with the official start of summer just about two weeks away I thought I’d start my own list about (with all due respect to Don Henley) our boys of summer, the IronPigs.

For those that are unaware, the Lehigh Valley IronPigs are the Triple-A affiliate of the Philadelphia Phillies, offering high caliber baseball throughout the summer at Coca-Cola Park. The park provides a beautiful setting for family-friendly entertainment at an affordable price, with lawn seats starting at just $7. You can take the family and not break the bank.

I personally have a few favorite things that always make my visit an enjoyable one.

5.  Promotions. From the giveaways at the gate to the between inning theatrics there is always something unique going on.

4.  Food. There are a variety of choices for every palate; one of mine is the Phillie fries. Fries topped with steak meat onions and peppers. Give them a try ... they don’t disappoint.

3. Convenience. It sure is nice to be able to get in and out of the park with ease. With a well-lit parking lot and readily accessible staff, I never feel unsafe and that’s important when the family is in tow.

2.  The Great Pork Race. Similar to mascot races at other parks, this race features Chris P. Bacon, Diggity, the newest addition, Barbie Q., and everyone’s most lovable underdog, Hambone.

And drumroll please………………………………………….my favorite is the Dancing Dirt Dudes. How can you not love a bunch of guys dressed up in crazy costumes, subjecting themselves to ridiculous dance routines all the while manicuring the infield between the sixth and seventh inning. Not to mention I had to give props to my friend and the Pigs Assistant General Manager, Howard Scharf. You got to love a guy that gives his all for the team.

I’d love to hear your favorites Lehigh Valley. So put those Wayfarers on and get out to a game.
