With Labor Day marking the unofficial start of the fall season, I figured I’d take a stab at putting together my top five sporting events in Lehigh Valley during the season.

I think I just might have something for every sports fan on this list. If not just let me know what you think should be deleted, but remember you can’t delete without adding an event to my list.

So here it goes . . .

5. After the inaugural Runner’s World Half & Festival, the festival is back for year two the weekend of October 18th. This festival truly has something for runners of all abilities. With expos, kid’s runs, a 5K, half marathon and the full marathon this weekend is jammed packed with things to do for those running enthusiasts.

4. The Gildan Triple-A Baseball National Championship makes the list at number four. This year Coca-Cola Park hosts this one game, winner take all playoff between the Pacific and International League champions. Make it a point to be there on September 17 as you never know who might be the next big Major League Baseball sensation.

3. The Easton – Phillipsburg high school football game is known to be the oldest rivalry game in the country. Set to play their 107th game on Thanksgiving morning this year, be sure to get your tickets in advance for this one.

2. Celtic Classic Highland National Championships. Yes folks, Celtic Classic has more than food and drink. Make certain to check out these massive athletes (September 27-29) toss the caber, throw the hammer and so much more.

And coming in at number one is the game that is set to take over Yankee Stadium on November 22, 2014 when Lehigh and Lafayette meet for the 150th time. In the meantime come experience this year’s gridiron battle on November 23 at Lehigh’s Goodman Stadium. Come early and tailgate to capture the full effect of this spirited rivalry.

So there you have it, my top five sporting events that you shouldn’t miss this fall and (one in 2014). How’d I do?
