As I've mentioned before, fall is my favorite time of year, and Lehigh Valley has no shortage of great ways to spend time during the fall season. Here are just a few:
- Frank Banko Alehouse Cinemas is a two-screen, independent cinema located on the ArtsQuest Center at SteelStacks campus. I've been a regular patron of the theater since the beginning, and stopping by for a matinee or a late-night feature is one of my favorite fall activities. There's always a diverse selection of films being screened and their concessions bar is second-to-none. Additionally, the SteelStacks campus looks particularly breathtaking during the autumn months, which makes for a lovely stroll across the grounds as you're heading towards the building.
- As the oldest continually-run bookstore in the country, the Moravian Book Shop is already a must-visit fixture of downtown Bethlehem. That it is a charming, cozy and relaxed place to spend a fall afternoon is a fantastic bonus. Their book selection is eclectic and features plenty of locally-centered material. You can sit down with a quality cup of coffee or a soothing hot chocolate in their cafe area and warm yourself up from the chilly fall air, while paging through the book of your choice.
- The Lehigh Valley Covered Bridge Tour is a tranquil 50-mile journey through scenic Lehigh Valley. The seven featured bridges are among the country’s last covered bridges still standing, and while the sight is quite quaint year-round, it is an especially picturesque experience after the leaves have changed colors. The combination of the autumn atmosphere and the old-world charm of the bridges is really special.
- Not only is Hawk Mountain Sanctuary is the world's largest member-supported raptor conservation organization, it's also the perfect place to spend a fall day sight-seeing and appreciating the gorgeous, sprawling rural territory that surrounds it. Hiking Hawk Mountain in the fall is an exhilarating and enlivening experience and it's something I look forward to every year.
