This weekend is going to “Rock and or Roll.” I got a concert doubleheader planned: Cloud Cult at Lehigh University’s Zoellner Arts Center Friday night, followed by the Kings of Leon sold out show at the Electric Factory in Philly on Saturday.
Cloud Cult, based out of Minnesota, is one of the first “green bands.” They travel from show to show in a biodiesel van, and they built their recording studio on the lead singer’s organic farm, which is powered by geothermal energy.
Cloud Cult’s musical styles fall into many categories - art rock, experimental, indie rock, electronica. My brother, who has seen them twice in NYC, told me that their show is more than just music, which is where the art rock comes in. They actually have two artists on stage, who paint to the music. The paintings are then auctioned off after the show and all the proceeds are donated to charity.
To be honest, I have Cloud Cult on my iPod, but not in heavy rotation. This show could propel them into iPod greatness.
Check out the video below, and if you like what you see, take advantage of this great deal (ends November 14 at 6 p.m.)
If I make it through this doubleheader weekend in one piece, I will have a full report of the show and where Cloud Cult resides on my iPod next Thursday.
