Looking for high-quality theatre, but don’t want to head to the big city? Lehigh Valley has you covered.

Each summer on the Center Valley campus of DeSales University, you’ll find wonderful performances by the Pennsylvania Shakespeare Festival. Presented every year since 1992, PSF now welcomes more than 30,000 patrons from 22 states to view world-class theatre featuring accomplished veterans of Broadway, television and film.

Don’t let the name of the festival mislead you- there is a lot going on besides traditional Shakespeare works! You’ll find classic musicals, plays, and children’s shows as well.

Earlier this month, the staff and partners of Discover Lehigh Valley were invited to attend the final dress rehearsal of Fiddler on the Roof, the first of five mainstage shows presented by PSF in the 2014 season.

The performance was wonderful, we never would have guessed that it was a dress rehearsal had we not been told before the show began. From the acting to singing, dancing to scenery, every part of Fiddler on the Roof reflected the highest amount of professionalism.

The show takes you on a family’s journey in Anatevka as the father, Tevye, his wife and five daughters experience love, loss, and laughs along the way. Audiences will recognize classic songs including “If I Were A Rich Man,” “Sunrise Sunset,” and “Tradition.”

Directed by Dennis Razze, Fiddler on the Roof at the Pennsylvania Shakespeare Festival is not to be missed.  Performances run Tuesdays through Sundays through June 29. Tickets are available by calling the box office at 610-282-3654, or by ordering online.

Coming from out of town to catch a show? Be sure to check out some of our local lodging partners that are offering discounted tickets to a show at PSF as part of an overnight package. Details are available here.

What Discover Lehigh Valley Partners had to say about Fiddler on the Roof: I have always loved live theatre and thought I needed to go to New York City.  I know now, that is not the case.  -Sandra S. The acting was excellent; the singing and dancing…outstanding! This has opened my eyes to the wonderful entertainment that is offered in the Lehigh Valley. -Kris D. My friends and I thoroughly enjoyed the performance last night, the cast was superb.  They truly made me feel like I was there and brought back many memories of when I was in the production in High School.  We all had a wonderful night out!  -Sheila S. I go to many plays in Philly and the quality of this play was at the same level or above.   The actors were engaging and talented.  It was so much fun and delightful.  -Linda L.
