Awhile ago, Kate in our office had just got tickets to see comedian Paula Poundstone at Penn's Peak and asked if I had ever heard of her. Of course I have! She is one of my favorite panelists on NPR's "Wait Wait...Don't Tell Me". I was so jealous.

Unfortunately, Kate wasn't feeling well on Friday and asked if I'd like her tickets for the show that night. After a quick call home to check with Don if we had any plans for the night (we didn't), I accepted. After all, Penn's Peak is a short drive from where we live.

Don and I saw Paula at the Sellersville Theatre last summer and she was great! No need to worry about any duplication in her Penn's Peak show;I'd say 80% is all ad-libbed. She feeds off the audience like no one I've ever seen before. Some jokes about Santa Monica (where she lives) and the sorry state of California in general were brought up after Paula commented on how beautiful our area of Pennsylvania is. Of course we knew that, but it's nice to hear it from a Hollywood celebrity.

When the two-hour performance was over, my sides were hurting from laughing so much. You missed a great show, Kate.  Here's a sample.

As we drove home, I couldn't help but think how lucky we are to have great venues like Penn's Peak, State Theatre and others right here in our own backyard. Where's the last place you've been to see a show?
