Thanksgiving is just a week away, which means I need to get out to Sorrenti's Cherry Valley Vineyards in Saylorsburg pronto! Let me explain why.
For many years I'd ask my sister Kathy what I should bring for Thanksgiving dinner and she'd always answer "Just yourselves." Regardless, I'd still try to think of something that would survive the 90-minute drive and be ready to serve...WINE!
Not exactly an original idea, I know, but what kind to bring always fueled some debate. Should I focus on bringing something to go with the turkey? Or should I bring a good Cabernet Sauvignon? A dry white? Sweet? Semi-sweet? It is hard to please everyone with just a couple bottles, and I certainly didn't want to commit a social faux pas by bringing a wine that was "so last season" (and don't pretend you don't know what I mean. Remember Merlot, Chardonnay, White Zinfandel, heck ... I could go as far back as Chablis!).
Well, a couple years ago, I finally found it!
The perfect compliment to the wonderful holiday meal Kathy and my brother-in-law, Don, serve is Sorrenti's Cranberry Blush! The Sorrentis are known for their wonderful fruit wines and spumantes, but the Cranberry Blush is one of my favorites. And what a crowd-pleaser! Everyone loved it!
So I started a new Thanksgiving tradition - Nancy brings the wine! What's your Thanksgiving tradition?
