Special occasions call for special places to celebrate. Last month was one of those times and I was charged with finding the location. The special occasion was my installation as the President of SKAL of Northeast Pennsylvania.
SKAL is an international organization of travel and tourism professionals whose motto is “Doing business among friends.” Our club is comprised of travel agents, hotels, restaurants, destination marketing organizations, suppliers and the airport, to name a few. We meet most months out of the year and network with the clubs that surround us to the north, south, east and west.
Planning events can be a challenge to most, but I knew exactly where I wanted to hold this black tie optional event in Lehigh Valley … Glasbern. Glasbern is located just outside of Allentown, yet it seems like you are miles away from the daily grind of a city atmosphere. It is a Historic Hotel of America property and it is absolutely my favorite place to visit.
This night was very special to me. So special in fact, that I decided to spend the evening there, even though I only live about 10 miles away. I had never had the chance to do so, and I thought this would be the perfect time. My check-in experience was over the top.
Pleasant attendants that offered to help with my luggage and even get me ice. I rented a room in the carriage house which is located in a separate building from the main dining area. Upon entering I was immediately enamored by the rustic feel. The wooden floors, fireplace, two-person Jacuzzi in the sun room, a tiled shower built for two, and a king-sized Sleep Number bed. I knew this was going to be a fantastic night!
Our event was being held in yet another building, the Lodge. The entrance to the Lodge greeted us with the smells of an outdoor fire pit. As soon as the guests arrived they were welcomed and stripped of their coats by Glasbern’s fantastic staff. The dining area was warm and inviting with a lit fireplace. The bar area was a separate gathering area for people to stand around and mingle. The Lodge is actually being expanded to host up to 150 guests in a connected room overlooking the scenic landscape of the property.
Glasbern takes pride in its private farm and gardens. A majority of the food served comes from the property. Our guests had the choice of a grass-fed filet mignon or grass-fed chicken entrée. The food was truly superb. The service was impeccable. And, the night is now a fantastic memory to reminisce about for years to come.
Have you explored Glasbern yet? It is definitely someplace you need to check out. It has been on my bucket list for a while!
