Five years ago I wrote a post about my favorite tax deductions. That one cost me a chunk of change after I realized a few of my memberships to the non-profit organizations I wrote about had lapsed.

Of course I had to renew them all before end of year. Well, it is mid-December again and the contents of my mailbox (the old fashion one on a post outside my house) are split between junk mail, Christmas cards, and solicitations for donations to a variety of charities.

There are so many worthy organizations in Lehigh Valley that I would love to support in a grand way if I had the means. I continue to be a member of WDIY 88.1 FM our local NPR public radio station which is celebrating its 20th year in 2015.

I also belong to the Allentown Art Museum of the Lehigh Valley, the Lehigh Valley Arts Council, and donate to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. (That one's personal) A few other local non-profits I would like to support made it much easier this year. They joined together as a group and started a website for "giving Tuesday" where your donation can be designated to one or split between them all. December 2nd has past, but you can still take advantage of the site, www.iheARTallentown.org. The seven participating organizations are:

Civic Theatre

Liberty Bell Museum

Community Music School

Allentown Symphony Association, (Miller Symphony Hall)

The Baum School of Art

Allentown Art Museum of the Lehigh Valley

and another favorite of mine:

Youth Education in the Arts, or YEA!

So, get out your credit card, log on to the site, and support all the non-profits that make Allentown and the entire Lehigh Valley a great place to live, and visit! Even small donations add up to make a difference. You'll be glad you did...and it's tax deductible!
