After nearly a week at home with a nasty sinus infection, I was feeling better and ready to get out of the house on Sunday, so I went to lunch at the Chicken Lounge in Allentown.

It's been at least five years since I've been to the Chicken Lounge. Two things I noticed right off the bat was 1) it is completely non-smoking now and 2) it's a lot brighter than it used to be - both changes are definitely positive.

One of the things I always liked about the Chicken Lounge is its set up like no other restaurant I've ever been to. In the middle of the restaurant is a large circular bar sunk into the floor surround by cozy wrap-around chairs rather than barstools. There are also other cozy tables and chairs clumped throughout the lounge, making it a great place for a work meeting over drinks, a romantic date or to watch the game with buddies.

The food a the Chicken Lounge has always been fantastic even though nothing they serve is fried (this coming from a girl who could live on mozzarella sticks and fast food). Lunch on Sunday consisted of Chicken Lounge's legendary nachos and a black gold steak with parsley potatoes.

The nachos are piled with melted cheese, guac, sour cream, refried beans ... I honestly don't know what else. But what makes them so unique is that the chips are nacho cheese flavored rather than plain tortilla chips. Honestly, I think every time I've ever been to the Chicken Lounge, either me or my dining partners have ordered the nachos and been satisfied.

The black gold steak was perfectly prepared medium well, just as requested, with such great flavor that no steak sauce was necessary. And the potatoes, they actually tasted like real potatoes - rather than some parsley potatoes I've had at other bars that are soaked in butter, these almost didn't have enough butter on them!

I'd gladly recommend Chicken Lounge to anyone looking for a great place to eat in Lehigh Valley.

Have you ever been there?
