Lehigh Valley soccer players are in for a holiday treat when the Turff Club's Lou Ramos Soccer Center opens in Allentown on December 8.
The brand new center, located at 1344 North Sherman St., Allentown is a sister facility to Turff Club, just down the road at 1206 North Sherman St., and forms a fantastic new indoor soccer complex in Lehigh Valley.
The Lou Ramos Center is simply enormous. It is a 40,000 square foot facility that features two 70" x 110" AstroTurf soccer rinked areas and three 50" x 80" official futsal courts using SportCourt flooring.
Why is Futsal so important? It's the official surface of US Futsal.
A recent Goal.com article on the surface feature more information. "The obvious benefits to their ability to play in tight spaces," U.S. Soccer women's development director Jill Ellis told Goal. "It just demands a higher level of control. Things are happening faster. I think it's great for the goalkeepers because they have to use their feet a lot. It just ties in directly with the message of more technical players. I think it's a great partnership – futsal and technical development."
Futsal has been around for decades but in the past few years has gained a lot of momentum. "Once seen as an amateur sport, which players would use to hone their skills before transitioning to the outdoor game, many of the participating nations in the World Cup now sport their own professional futsal leagues and play dozens of full internationals each year," according to USSoccer.com.
The new facility will feature concessions, free wifi, offices, classrooms, and much more. Soccer development programs will also be open to all youth soccer players as well as futsal and indoor soccer league play for youth through adult, competitive indoor 3v3 and 6v6 tournaments, and will serve as a team training facility and will be available for rentals.
The center will also be home to Lehigh Valley United soccer .
