In less than three short weeks it will be time to ring in the New Year. Hard to believe, I know.
One of my favorite ways to do so is at Bethlehem's annual New Year's Eve celebration called First Night. I used to volunteer with the non-profit organization that ran it before ArtsQuest took it over last year, so I guess you could say I've always worked the event but never really experienced it.
One thing I've missed that I plan to check out one of these years, if not this year, is the concerts. This year I'd love to see Mama Jama and Philadelphia Funk Authority, who I've seen perform at Musikfest.
My favorite part of the event that I have experienced are the fireworks at midnight in Payrow Plaza. That's where city hall and the library are located. They also drop a yellow fiberglass Peep at midnight. You know, the marshmallow chicks made by Just Born? (The Peep drop was even named to Trip Advisor's recent "Top 10 Quirkiest New Year's Eve Events" which is pretty cool.) I used to get to hold the Peep's tether so he (she?) wouldn't fall too fast. I felt so honored!
So how are you planning on celebrating New Year's Eve this year?
