I have visited and, more importantly, tasted many of the Lehigh Valley Wine Trail wines. Some I like and others I can do without. But I have noticed something over the years: all of them have improved. And I'm not the only one who has noticed.
Last weekend, at the Pennsylvania Farm Show, Sorrenti Cherry Valley Vineyards won the Governor's Cup in the fruit wine category for its Blueberry Spumante and Pinnacle Ridge won a Governor's Cup for its 2007 Chambourcin in the grape wine category. The Pinnacle Ridge wine is the first Governor's Cup winner that bears a Lehigh Valley American Viticultural Area designation on its label.
In addition to the Governor's Cup awards, Lehigh Valley wineries received eight of 22 gold medals awarded at the Farm Show competition: Pinnacle Ridge (3), Clover Hill Winery (3), Vynecrest (1) and Cherry Valley (1).
Lehigh Valley is truly becoming a dominant force in the wine world, so I encourage you to visit a winery soon.
