As our lives unfold day in and day out in Lehigh Valley, we can often overlook and forget the little pleasantries that add to the fondness of living in Lehigh Valley.

The area is made up of such unique and interesting places and things to see and do, plus and, most importantly people that are welcoming and gracious. Ah, most of the time. I’m here to give you my top five gripes that might have you second guessing our residents from time to time.

5) Not holding the door for someone. Come on Lehigh Valley, this is common courtesy that we all probably learned as children.

4) Elevators, in particular how you enter them. Folks, people most likely should be let off the elevator before you try to enter it. That means backing up from the door to allow those exiting actually enough room to exit.

3) Saying "hello". When you walk by the same people every day during your daily routine, it is okay to say "hello". You both know you don’t know each other’s names, but it’s still okay to say "hello". I swear you might even make someone smile.

2) Please and thank you. Two small phrases that still carry tons of weight. Try using them sometime, actually all the time and see how receptive people are to you.

1) Smoking. If you want to light something on fire and stick it in your mouth, that’s your prerogative. But if you could do it at least 10 feet away from the door us non-smokers are entering that would be wonderful.
