Back in April I blogged about how classic/prog rock band Rush was going to open up the 2010 Great Allentown Fair's grandstand show lineup. Well, tomorrow is opening night of the Fair, which means the wait is finally over. I still think they'll end up having the most impressive visual show of all the acts, with a lot of screens and lighting that is usually only found in arenas.

Keith Urban, Justin Beiber (still sold out) and Jeff Dunham are still slated to be taking the stage September 3, 4 and 5. Since my initial blog post, the final two shows have been announced, so here's my take on them:

I am clueless when it comes to country music, unless it's Johnny Cash or Loretta Lynn. What I do know is Lady Antebellum has sold a ton records and a lot of downloads off of iTunes, and won a lot of awards. They also crossed-over into the pop world. They're not my type of band, but I still see their September 2 show as being a big success for the Fair this year.

Wednesday night, September 1, is the show I'm most looking forward to seeing: Weezer with Gaslight Anthem. Weezer is an all-time alternative rock great and still making relevant music till this day. In fact two weeks after their Lehigh Valley gig at the Great Allentown Fair, they're releasing a new album called Hurley. I think the surprise act of the week is going to be Weezer’s opener, the punk/folk/hard rock band Gaslight Anthem. Gaslight hails from New Brunswick, NJ and are Springsteen disciples - their lyrics are very Bruce-like and they have actually shared the stage with Bruce a few times. (Check out the video below.)

The fair wraps up with the demo derby on September 6, which to my continued amazement still packs the grandstands year after year.

Tomorrow I'll hit up the midway, food, livestock, and everything else The Great Allentown Fair has to offer, but until then, which grandstand show are you most excited about seeing at the 2010 Great Allentown Fair?
