The Lehigh Valley forecast for this weekend looks great, so if you had indoor plans for Saturday or Sunday, September 19 & 20 you may want to reconsider. Easton will, once again, hold its Annual Riverside Festival of the Arts at Riverside and Scott Parks.

For many years now, Easton has been known as a perfect place for artists. Many moved here decades ago from New York City and New Hope, Pennsylvania escaping the high rents and cost of living. With the cities picturesque riverfront and great architecture, they found a common place in Easton to live, work, and play.

The Arts Community of Easton, formed by these like-minded individuals and businesses back in 1999 celebrates and shares their love for all things art in this annual festival, celebrating its 19th year. This is not your typical art show on a boardwalk!

This year's festival starts out with "Pecha Kucha Night," which they describe as "brief and vibrant 'Ted-like' talks." The concept allows many different people to show or tell about their work or experience in a short, usually timed presentation. That sounds way more fun to me than an entire presentation on one subject or object.

Other highlights include the juried Fine Art and Craft competition. Again, over 70 artists are bringing their "A-game." After all, there's $1,600 in cash prizes awarded. They also have a "Plein Air" art contest with $1,000 in prizes. For those unfamiliar, the term comes from the French and means "in the open air." For just a $10 fee, anyone can pretend to be Easton's version of Claude Monet or Pierre-Auguste Renoir and "peinture sur le motif" or "paint what they see." That sounds fun to watch!

Don't leave the kids at home. There will be plenty of activities for them, too! There will be an art project booth with activities, fun giveaways thanks to Crayola, face painting, great food, and a variety of talented musical acts.

Enjoy one of the last summer weekends by spending it outdoors in Easton celebrating the vibrant arts community we are lucky to have here in Lehigh Valley.
