Wednesday night found my fiancée and I in the Lehigh Valley Mall looking for a place to eat. It just so happens that one of my favorite places to eat in Lehigh Valley is in that very mall, Dunderbak's.
I have partaken in many of their dishes, their krauts and their wursts, but my favorites come from the Double Decker Mealwiches section.
We both ordered from my favorite section. She ordered "The Blue Max", which has corned beef, weinkraut, Swiss cheese and Thousand Island dressing on the bottom and pastrami, blue cheese dressing, lettuce and tomato on the top on marble bread, with a side of potato pancakes. I ordered "The Red Baron", roast turkey with Swiss cheese and Thousand Island dressing on the bottom and corned beef with weinkraut on the top, also on marble bread with fries.
While we waited for the food, the Oktoberfest atmosphere of Dunderbak's just relaxes you, if you listen really carefully you can still hear the bustle from the mall and if you want to sit in the mall itself you can do that too, but to be inside Dunderbak’s is to get lost and forget where you are. Am I in Germany at a food festival? No, no I’m still in the mall.
The food came hot and fresh, and it was as it always is, amazing. I traded a French fry for a potato pancake, well I had to ante up five fries for it, but it was worth it. Now I only have to order “The Mozart” to have eaten all three of the carnivore Double Decker Mealwiches; there is a fourth, “The Contessa”, an all Veggie affair, but I enjoy being a carnivore.
If you haven't been, I would highly recommend it. They have a kids menu, so bring the family, bring your friends, or just bring yourself. It'll make your mall visit a little less visit and a little more excursion.
Where do you eat when you visit the Lehigh Valley Mall?
