By now I think everyone is sick of winter. Personally, I can't wait for spring to arrive in Lehigh Valley. This month, though, I get to enjoy my annual "first official springtime" activity, Lehigh Valley Wine Trail's March Madness Passport Program!

I've told you about my yearly pilgrimage through the countryside to sample (and buy!) wines from our nine local wineries before. Since this event is sold out every year, I figured I'd tell you about the next event they will host so you can plan ahead.

On the weekend of April 24th and 25th, the LVWT will celebrate its second anniversary of receiving its AVA designation. That's the federal "American Viticulture Area" designation that distinguishes Lehigh Valley as a unique wine producing region. The theme of this weekend will be "from the soil, to the vine, to the glass."

It is easy to forget the amount of work that goes into each bottle of wine we buy, so I'm really looking forward to the educational activities many of the wineries will be hosting. Apparently, we have the right combination of dirt, rocks, rain and minerals needed to grow the grapes found in our award-winning wines and I can't wait to get out in the fields to learn all about it.

Clover Hill will be holding a scavenger hunt in their vineyard this weekend which sounds like a lot of fun and you can click here for the rest of the schedules. I'm sure after learning all about our local "terrior" (dirt) I'll really appreciate all the wine I bought in March!

This Lehigh Valley Wine Trail event will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday; noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday, and it is FREE! So call all your wine loving friends and mark your calendars now.
