I have to agree with Morning Call writer Bill White - gaudy is good when it comes to Christmas lights. Every year, Bill compiles a Christmas Lights Tour of houses in Lehigh Valley that he thinks are worth checking out - gaudy or elegant. This year his list comes out December 19 and I'm looking forward to it!

Since high school, a small group of friends and I get together and do almost the same thing. We grab some blankets, brew some coffee and hot chocolate, and jump into my car to tour neighborhoods around the area. We have the most fun looking at the houses that have long strands of crazy-colored lights with big burnt-out sections, giant blow-up penguins and lights that seem to blink (aka blinkers) at random. We love the traditional ones too, which usually gets our vote for "Best Decorated House" ... and a note saying so in their mailbox!

In addition to Bill's tour and our own light-hunting excursion this year, I'd like to see Koziar's Christmas Village's light display. I've never been there but I hear it's a completely different experience from Lights in the Parkway. I'll probably invite my light-hunting friends along with me since they are the only ones that ever show interest in this type of thing!

I'm looking forward to our light-hunting excursion but any new suggestions would be great! In the meantime, I'd like to share my favorite holiday lights video:
