Last weekend my fiance and I had the pleasure of watching my niece and nephew while their parents went to a holiday party. Since my son was not around to pal around with them, I really had to put my thinking cap on as to how to keep them busy. It was snowing that night and I thought wouldn't it be a cool time to drive through Lights in the Parkwayin Allentown? So, I made some hot chocolate, cappuccino and tea, we all got in the car and I turned on the holiday tunes to mentally prepare us for what we were about to see.
The car line to get in wasn't too bad because the roads weren't the greatest. We only had about a five-minute wait before turning our headlights out (of course you have to leave your parking lights on), readjusting the radio station to coincide with their program and gazing at the lights around us! Oh, and the kids each got a box of Mike & Ike's for the ride.
I think my favorite light display was The Wizard of Oz. They had the scarecrow, tin man, lion, Dorothy, Toto, the Wicked Witch riding around the castle, and the house as it was being sucked up by the tornado. All in all they did a good job.
We stopped at the gift barn on the way out. As soon as we walked in, we were greeted by Santa and gift barn sponsor the Allentown Patriots. There's so many choices of things to buy, from fine art prints to handpainted ornaments. I finally settled for a Hess's print for my aunt, a wind chime for my brother and some packets of holiday hot cocoa mix (for me!). We also registered to win tickets to Florida via Allegiant Air - Orlando, here I come!
This road trip really got me in the holiday spirit. And for only $9 (there are even discounts available that we could have taken advantage of but didn't find out until after the fact), who could ask for more?
