I don't know about you, but when I go out to eat I like to order something I wouldn't make at home, which usually rules out pasta and chicken entrees. My favorite dish to get when I go out, and one where you can really judge the caliber of the chef, is veal.
In the spirit of competition, or maybe because I watch too many Iron Chef shows, I decided to compare a few Lehigh Valley restaurants' veal dishes to see which I enjoyed most. Here's my results:
#3) Mama Nina's Veal Fantasy - The name alone is intriguing, but the description sold me: "Veal sauteed with artichoke hearts and sun dried tomatoes in a pink white cream sauce with a touch of fresh basil."
#2) Gaetano's Italian Restaurant's Veal a la Gaetano - It may have a less pretentious name than "Veal Fantasy," but it's an even better dish! You'll just have to try it yourself.
#1) Cafe del Mar's Veal Ecstasy - What's with these names??? I can't resist ordering these "veal medallions sauteed with mushroom, bacon and herbs in a brandy cream sauce." This selection has a perfect balance of flavors.
If you do go try the "Veal Ecstasy" at Cafe del Mar, I suggest sitting at the bar area if possible. I love how the old woodwork (pictured) and the lively conversations makes everyone feel like a "regular."
So there's my top three ... where else should I go for a great veal dish?
