With Thanksgiving Day a little over a week away, I thought it was time to be thankful for some things here in Lehigh Valley. We should be proud of the area and its resurgence. ArtsQuest Center at Steel Stacks and the Sands Casino Resort Bethlehem have garnered lots of attention, and rightfully so, as they are two pillars of the revitalization of the former Bethlehem Steel property. But let’s not forget some of the other things bringing vitality back into Lehigh Valley.
Easton has done an excellent job in turning its downtown into a foodie’s oasis with restaurants like Velenca, Sette Luna and Ocean, just to name a few. With the announcement of the new Phantoms hockey arena project in downtown Allentown, the commitment has been made to bring Hamilton Street back to its Hess’s glory days. As a transplant to the area, and a Discover Lehigh Valley employee, I know I can speak for most of my colleagues; we can’t wait to see and feel the energy this arena will bring back to Allentown’s downtown.
So take time to be thankful for what the area currently has to offer and what’s on the horizon. As Lehigh Valley residents, we welcome visitors with open arms, but let us not forget that area business depends on the locals day in and day out to keep the doors open and the continued improvements.
In closing, I would feel remiss if I didn’t ask everyone to say a prayer for the young lives that were and are still affected by the tragedy at Penn State. Thank you.
Take time to hug your loved ones and offer them thanks. Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
