“Most Valuable Players” provides behind the scenes look into The FREDDY© Awards for regional high school musicals
EASTON, Pa. (April 30, 2012) – “Most Valuable Players,” a nationally acclaimed documentary chronicling three high school theater troupes’ diligent and inspired journey toward an annual awards program for musical theater, is now available for purchase on DVD at www.freddyawards.org.
Produced by Canyon Back Films in conjunction with The State Theatre Center for the Arts, “Most Valuable Players,” provides a behind-the-scenes look into The FREDDY© Awards, the equivalent of the Tony Awards for high school musicals in the Greater Lehigh Valley.
The film won The Documentary Channel Audience Award at the 2011 Nashville Film Festival. And with the 2012 Freddy Awards around the corner, there is no better way to support local theater than purchasing the DVD at www.freddyawards.com, as 100 percent of the proceeds benefit The State Theatre Center for the Arts.
Based on the 2008 Freddy Awards, “Most Valuable Players” celebrates arts education and demonstrates that it encourages the same teamwork, camaraderie and confidence as sports.
Created in 2003, The FREDDY© Awards is a live three-hour television broadcast recognizing and rewarding outstanding achievement in regional high school musical theater. Each year recipients are awarded at The State Theatre Center for the Arts and broadcast live on WFMZ-TV69. Currently, Lehigh Valley is the only region in the country that has a live television broadcast recognizing excellence in high school theatre.
The broadcast, which will air this year on Thursday, May 24, has been honored with two regional EMMY Awards, two EMMY Nominations, two Associated Press Awards for Public Affairs and six Pennsylvania Association of Broadcasters Awards. In addition the broadcast was awarded the 2008 Award for Outstanding Television Program Designed for Children.
