Allentown Art Museum, arts organizations and local businesses partner for a four-month tribute to history of Rock n’ Roll
LEHIGH VALLEY, Pa. (Monday, January 16, 2012) – Discover Lehigh Valley, The Allentown Art Museum of the Lehigh Valley and various local arts organizations and businesses are partnering together to offer visitors a rockin’ good time with Rock Through The Valley - a four month celebration of the history of Rock n’ Roll. The celebration goes hand-in-hand with the Allentown Art Museum’s “Who Shot Rock & Roll: A Photographic History, 1955 to the Present” exhibit.
“Rock Through The Valley is a way to unify the arts community and give residents and visitors a schedule of music-related events throughout Lehigh Valley,” said Michael Stershic, president of Discover Lehigh Valley. The subject of Rock n’ Roll is a part of who we are as Americans and this series of events is a celebration of that history.”
The Who Shot Rock & Roll exhibit (February 11 – May 13, 2012) contains more than 175 images, including candid snapshots, publicity portraits, album cover art, videos and images of live performances of popular artists ranging from Elvis and Dylan to Amy Winehouse. Visitors to the Allentown Art Museum will be able to examine the work of photographers such as Richard Avedon, Annie Leibovitz, Linda McCartney and many more. Their images capture the essence of the rock and roll generation, freedom and personal reinvention and expression through skillful, sensual, sexy, creative and compelling images that are among the best representations of rock photography, past and present.

A traveling exhibit from the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum with vibrant images of women rockers such as Grace Slick of Jefferson Airplane, Joan Jett and Tina Turner as they performed during their rise to stardom.
C.F. Martin & Co. Guitar Exhibit C.F. Martin & Co. Museum and Visitors Center February 12, 2012 – May 13, 2012
Martin Guitar’s Museum and Visitors Center will feature a display of artists’ guitars that includes Elvis Presley, the Beatles, Johnny Cash and Hank Williams. Martin’s 177-year history weaves through American culture with a priceless collection of guitars and artifacts.
Shooting Rock & Roll Allentown Art Museum of the Lehigh Valley February 26, 2012 Legendary photographer Godlis talks about his experiences behind the lens shooting rock and roll.
