Recreational and travel teams to play at Catasauqua High School in Northampton

Lehigh Valley, Pa. (August 11, 2015) – Catasauqua Youth Soccer Association will host the Fifth Annual Sage Stauffer Memorial Soccer Tournament on August 22, 2015 (rain date August 23, 2015) at Catasauqua High School (2500 W. Bullshead Rd., Northampton). The goal of the tournament is to raise money for a scholarship fund in Sage’s memory.

Sage passed away unexpectedly on August 30, 2010 at the age of 12 from a bicycle accident. In his youth, Sage came alive on the soccer field, gaining confidence, encouraging teammates and competitors alike, and often trying to invent a new move to surprise his opponents. He strived to be better by practicing for hours at times to perfect a move. Sage quickly became the team captain in a group where he knew no one prior to the first practice. Soccer helped to shape Sage into the boy that he was, and the man he was on the verge of becoming.

The goal of the Sage Stauffer Memorial Tournament is to share his passion and love of the game with other kids, and keep them involved in sports to build confidence and teamwork while gaining the same advantages from soccer that Sage did. Games are 6 versus 6, small-sided, and 25 minutes long.

2015 will mark the fifth and final tournament in Sage’s memory. Thanks to the support of so many, a number of handout scholarships will be offered for years to come. “When you see and experience the efforts and energy put forth by Julie Stauffer and her staff these past few years, it is impossible to not be involved,” says Michael Kuzy, Director of Sports Marketing at Discover Lehigh Valley Sports. “Some sporting events are different than others. This one has been a very special one for the community. It’s been our honor to support Julie and the Sage Stauffer Memorial.”

The Sage Stauffer Memorial Tournament is made possible by the generous contributions of nearly sixty local sponsors. For details, visit
