Featured Attraction – Pennsylvania Shakespeare Festival
Each summer, the Pennsylvania Shakespeare Festival at DeSales University produces a season of Shakespeare and other classics, musical theatre, and children’s theatre. About an hour north of Philadelphia and less than two hours from Manhattan, the Festival is the summer home to nearly 150 artists from around the country, including winners and nominees of the Tony, Obie, Emmy, Drama Desk, Outer Critics Circle, Jefferson, and Barrymore awards. With 200+ performances of six full productions, it has become a leading Shakespeare festival with an emerging national reputation for excellence. The 2012 festival runs from June 1 – August 5.
Arts & Culture
Artifest returns to the Museum of Indian Culture for the weekend of June 9 & 10. This annual festival celebrates the rich cultural diversity found in Lehigh Valley, with live music and dancing, arts & crafts, and plenty of delicious food from around the world. Admission is just $5 for adults and $4 for seniors and children ages 12-17 (11 & under are free).
The 34th Annual Arts and Crafts Festival takes place June 9 at Moravian Historical Society in downtown Nazareth on the lawn of the 1740 Whitefield House, from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. This is one of Lehigh Valley’s largest outdoor arts and crafts festivals, filled with talented artists, great food, free kids activities, and live musical entertainment.
Dutch Springs is now open for the season, offering outdoor enthusiasts plenty of fun – both above and below the surface. At their 50-acre lake, you’ll find some of the best scuba diving on the East Coast with crystal-clear visibility. For the family members who prefer to stay above water, there’s an Aqua Park, a water park on the water, and the Sky Challenge, a wall climb and high ropes adventure course. The Antique Truck Club of America will hold their 33rd Annual National Show & Flea Market on June 15 & 16 at Macungie Memorial Park. The event gathers hundreds of antique trucks and enthusiasts from across the nation to the park each year, with trucks for sale, food stands, artists and music.
Fairs & Festivals
Celebrate the 9th Annual Southside Film Festival in Bethlehem from June 12 – 16, attracting films and filmmakers from around the country and around the world to Bethlehem’s arts district. The SouthSide Film Festival is an exciting week full of films, friends, food and spirits. To date, the festival has screened more than 700 films from 80 different countries around the globe.
Join us for a good, old-fashioned summer celebration at the 63rd Annual Kutztown Folk Festival, from June 30 – July 8 (9 a.m. – 6 p.m. each day). Celebrating the Pennsylvania Dutch culture, this unique festival continues to attract upwards of 150,000 visitors per year. The Schnecksville Community Fair returns this month, bringing rides, entertainment, exhibits and shows to the town of Schnecksville. The fair runs from June 18 – 23, 5 to 10 p.m., Monday through Friday and 3 p.m. to midnight on Saturday. Click here to get a coupon for $1 off admission.

Blues, Brews & BBQ returns to downtown Allentown on June 9 from noon to 10 p.m., with live music from some of the hottest blues musicians around, mouth-watering barbeque and plenty of refreshing brews. This family-friendly event takes place at PPL Plaza along Hamilton Street, and is free to enter. Find out more here.
There will be nearly 30 craft brewers sampling their libations at this year’s PBS39 Microbrew Festival. The beer lover’s event takes place at Coca-Cola Park on June 23 from 2 to 5 p.m. For just $25 (for online tickets), visitors will get their fill of beer tastings, gourmet cooking demonstrations and live music. The ticket cost goes up to $35 after June 15.
