Arts & Culture

1920s Fashion

The Allentown Art Museum of the Lehigh Valley will transport you to the vibrant era of prohibition, speakeasies, and the wild and carefree Charleston. Fabulous Flappers: Fashion from the Ellie Laubner Collection  addresses our fascination with the 1920s. This retrospective exhibit runs through April 14 and includes exquisite evening gowns draped in beads, silky-soft lingerie, elegant embroidered shawls, and authentic bridal wear adorned with wax orange blossoms.

Marvel at Art Deco–style accessories such as dangling handbags, perky cloches, sequined shoes, and fantastic cigarette cases. Men are represented with sportswear, including knickers, letter sweaters, and swimwear. This exhibit is guaranteed to inform as well as entertain. A roaring good time!

College Theatre

Visit Muhlenberg College’s beautiful campus and take in “Bartholomew Fair.” Ben Jonson’s 1614 play is a noisy, exuberant slice of Jacobean life, pitting the excesses of Puritanism against the cruder vices of the Fair’s underclass. The production features a new musical score by Caroline Boersma, based on traditional folk melodies, and a faculty spotlight performance by Holly Cate. The show runs February 21 – 23 (8 p.m. – 10 a.m.) and February 24 (2 p.m. – 4 p.m.)

Sands Casino Resort Bethlehem

With the unpredictable weather that February brings, sometimes it’s just easier to plan your weekends at places where the weather can’t get at you. We have an impressive list of indoor attractions in Lehigh Valley that are open year-round, rain or shine.

Have you been to the Sands® Casino Resort Bethlehem lately? The sprawling casino on the old Bethlehem Steel grounds boasts eight restaurants, including three from world-famous chef Emeril Lagasse. The new event center is bringing in top-notch performers touring the east coast throughout the year. While you’re there, stroll around the brand new Outlets at Sands, home to luxury brand shops just steps from the casino floor.
