Arts & Culture
The Arts Community of Easton will hold its 14th Annual Open Studio Arts Tour on the weekend of April 14 & 15, welcoming visitors for a leisurely self-guided walking tour into various galleries and shops across the city. Pick up your free map at Connexions Art Gallery (213 Northampton Street) and at most other gallery locations on tour days.
You’re invited to the 2012 Gala at the Allentown Art Museum on April 14 from 7 p.m. to midnight. Awaiting you at the Gala is a wonderful dinner, a silent auction filled with fantastic prizes and dancing throughout the beautiful and newly renovated galleries at the Allentown Art Museum of the Lehigh Valley. Do you remember what it was like to cruise in and catch a movie at the drive-in movie theaters back in the day? Who are we kidding … back in the day? You can still do it right here in our backyard! Becky’s Drive In Theatre in Berlinsville is opening this weekend, with various showtimes on April 6, 7 & 8. Admission costs just $8 for adults and $4 for children ages 3-12 (2 and under are free). The folks at Rodale Institute are awaiting the 25,000 organic tulips that they planted last spring to burst into bloom very soon, and you’re invited to view this spectacular sight during their Organic Tulip Festival. The festival will be held on Saturday, April 14, beginning at 10 a.m., but you can come and pick tulips anytime between April 3 and 21. Make sure to bring a camera as well as your own bucket for your blooms.

If you’re into antiquing, collecting, or just getting a great deal, you can’t miss Renninger’s Antique & Collector’s Extravaganza in Kutztown from April 26 – 28. The event has long been a meeting place for dealers and collectors from all over the world to buy and sell amongst themselves and the general public. For hours and full information, click here.
Lehigh Carbon Community College invites you to join them for Great Chefs 2012 demonstrations inside some of the most interesting restaurants in the area. The series includes cooking instructions, recipe sharing, wonderful sampling, and great company. Pet lovers won’t want to miss Paws on the Promenade at the Promenade Shops at Saucon Valley, on April 28 from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. You’ll have the chance to meet volunteers from a variety of local animal shelters and groups, participate in the pet parade, and enjoy “Yappy Hour” at the Patio Food Court. Crafters, quilters and art lovers: Don’t miss this exhibit of never-before-displayed Pennsylvania German quilts and coverlets during Quilt Fest at the Lehigh Valley Heritage Museum. The exhibit will be held on April 21 from 1 – 4 p.m. and is free to members. Admission for non-members: $6 adults, $3 children, under 5 are free.
The brand new “Cars that Were Stars” exhibit debuts at America on Wheels on April 14 at 10 a.m. and will remain in the museum until October. This exhibit showcases a truly unique collection of cars that were featured in major motion pictures or television series. Find out more information here.
Get some fresh air while helping the community at the same time during the Historic District City Clean Up and Celebration on April 28 from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. The Clean Up will take place from 9 – 11 a.m. along Main and Broad Streets, picking up litter, cleaning out planters, and planting new flowers for spring! All ages are welcome. After the Clean Up, join in the celebration from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. and mingle with representatives from Earth Friendly Organizations to learn about their sustainable initiatives while listening to bands perform live on the street.
The Lehigh Valley IronPigs 2012 season is now underway, with the opening game on April 5 at Coca-Cola Park. If you haven’t been to a game yet, you have no idea what you’re missing. Single game tickets are available for as low as $7 for general admission or $10 for field level tickets.
