Valley’s Cocktail Mastery Contenders Chosen on Final Day at Allentown Fair
There was a whole lot of shakin’ going on the final day of The Great Allentown Fair. Bartenders from across the Lehigh Valley showed up to do battle at the fair’s Farm to Table demonstration stage, concocting extraordinary cocktails in a quest to be in the semifinals and finals of the region’s first Iron Shaker Competition, a special events during Allentown Cocktail Week running September 13-19.
Emerging from the field of 12 US Bartender Guild semi-finalists, six won the right to shake it up at the semifinals that will take place September 16 at the Allentown Economic Development Corporation’s headquarters in South Allentown. There three bartenders will be left “shaking” and go on to the Shakers Ball at the Renaissance Allentown Hotel on September 19 where a champion will be crowned.
They are Lucas Heckenberger of ROAR Social House and Jessie Haik of The Dime both in Allentown, Melissa Lozada of Maxim’s 22 Bistro Brasserie and Lorenzo Bubba of Pearly Baker’s Alehouse both in Easton , Jesse Dech of 187 Rue Principale in Emmaus and Jeremy Strungis of The Broadway Social in Bethlehem.
The Allentown Fair semi-finalist event went on all afternoon Labor Day Monday on the stage where the area’s renowned chefs had demonstrated every day of the fair. The heats drew crowds of supporters for each of the contestants. Fair Farm to Table series coordinator Pat Rice and Allentown’s Hamilton Kitchen and Bar General Manager Jason Lonigro organized the event.
