The Queen of Soul, Aretha Franklin, Set to Headline Musikfest Aug. 8
BETHLEHEM, PA— Ain’t no way you’ll want to miss 18-time GRAMMY-winning singer-songwriter Aretha Franklin Mon., Aug. 8, 8:30 p.m., when she headlines Musikfest 2016 on the Sands Steel Stage. Tickets for the concert are $44-$69 and go on sale starting Tues., April 26, 10 a.m., to ArtsQuest Members and Fri., April 29, 10 a.m., to the public at www.musikfest.org and 610-332-3378.
Born in Memphis, Tenn., the Queen of Soul began her career singing gospel at her father’s church as a child. In 1960, at the age of 18, Franklin recorded for Columbia Records, achieving modest success. She later signed to Atlantic Records, where she achieved commercial acclaim with songs such as “Respect,” “(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman,” “Chain of Fools,” “Ain’t No Way” and “Think.”
The most charted female artist in Billboard history, Franklin has also won a total of 18 GRAMMY Awards. She’s also one of the best-selling artists of all time, having sold more than 75 million records around the world.
Franklin has received numerous honors for her work including the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the U.S.A.’s highest civilian honor, and a 1987 induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, in which she became the first female performer to be inducted. In 2010, she was also named No. 1 on Rolling Stone’s list of the 100 Greatest Singers of All Time.
