‘The Greatest Generation’ Nov. 11 at SteelStacks to Honor Local Veterans of WWII

Oct 26th, 2015Press Release from ArtsQuest

BETHLEHEM, PA—This Veterans Day we’re calling upon the Greatest Generation to tell the stories that helped to shape the world as we know it today.

On Nov. 11, 6:30 p.m., the ArtsQuest Center will host “The Greatest Generation – Conversations with Our Veterans of World War II,” presented by Embassy Bank. A partnership between Embassy Bank, Phoebe Ministries, the Lehigh University Veterans Association and ArtsQuest, the special event is designed to honor World War II Veterans and all of the courageous men and women of the Armed Forces who have helped protect our great nation.

The evening, which is free and open to the public, will include conversations and a Q&A with Rev. Kenneth Dearstyne, a resident of Phoebe Berks Village who served as a radio operator with the U.S. Army in WWII’s Pacific Theater, and Navy Seaman Anthony “Tony” Cisek of Phoebe Berks Village, who was stationed on the USS Tolman in Pearl Harbor and also landed in Japan, witnessing the impact the atomic bomb had on the nation. Moderator for the evening is Frank Gunter, a retired U.S. Marine Corps Colonel and head of Lehigh University’s Veterans Association.

“My military career has no heroics, but it can be argued that serving one’s country and serving God at the same time is heroism in itself,” said Dearstyne.

A pre-event reception, with light refreshments, will be held at 6:30 p.m., with the program beginning at 7 p.m. The evening will also include a Presentation of the Colors by the Steel Battalion ROTC unit and a screening of “Honor Flight,” the heartwarming documentary about four living World War II Veterans and the Midwest community that came together to give them the trip of a lifetime – a visit to see the World War II Memorial in Washington, D.C.

The Greatest Generation is made possible thanks to Embassy Bank, along with Phoebe Ministries, Lehigh University Veterans Association and ArtsQuest. Anyone interested in attending the event should reserve their tickets by calling the ArtsQuest Center Box Office at 610-332-3378 or visiting the Box Office, located at 101 Founders Way, Bethlehem.
