New tasting room in world’s oldest book store will give meadmaker presence on Main St in Historic Bethlehem.

BETHLEHEM, PA— Tourists and residents alike will now be able to share in craft beverage’s new golden age. The Colony Meadery, the Allentown company that makes alcohol from fermented honey, announced they’ll be opening a new tasting room in the heart of Historic Bethlehem, at the Moravian Book Shop.

“We are extremely excited about this partnership,” said Greg Heller-LaBelle, Colony Meadery CEO and Co-founder. “Being able to locate in the world’s oldest book store, with all of the Main Street Bethlehem attractions and customers, is going to be an incredible opportunity for us.”

The Colony Meadery at the Book Shop will feature many of the same amenities as the current tasting room at the manufacturing facility on Harrison St in Allentown: Mead tasting flights, mead on draft, bottles for on-premise and to-go consumption, and light food for attendants. Seasonal outdoor seating will be available.

“The Moravian Book Shop views this new partnership with The Colony Meadery as an exciting and historically appropriate complement to the Book Shop, located, as it is, in the heart of ‘Historic Moravian Bethlehem’, a National Historic Landmark District,”,  according to Richard Santee, President of the Board of Directors of the Moravian Book Shop. “Mead was very likely produced and served in many homes of Colonial Bethlehem and the greater Lehigh Valley during the 18th and 19th centuries.”

The satellite location aims to open by August, to take advantage of the Musikfest crowds.

“Let’s be honest: it’s time for mead in a mug,” Heller-LaBelle said.
