BETHLEHEM, PA–It’s a night of non-stop ‘90s hits as the Summerland Tour featuring Sugar Ray, Everclear, Lit and Sponge comes to the Yuengling Summer Concert Series at SteelStacks July 20, 7 p.m. Tickets for the show, which takes place at the Levitt Pavilion, are $35 in advance and $40 day of show. They’ll go on sale starting April 12, 10 a.m., to ArtsQuest Members and April 15, 10 a.m., to the public at steelstacks.org and 610-332-3378.
The Summerland Tour, created by Sugar Ray’s Mark McGrath and Everclear’s Art Alexakis in 2012, was named one of “The Ten Hottest Summer Package Tours” by Rolling Stone that year. Sugar Ray became a household name in the ‘90s after their 1997 No. 1 Billboard single, “Fly,” exploded across airwaves, eventually being hailed as one of the “100 Greatest Songs of the ‘90s” by VH1. Their commercial success continued with hits like “Every Morning,” “Someday” and “When It’s Over.”
Formed in 1991, Everclear is best known for their chart-topping singles “Wonderful” and “I Will Buy You a New Life.” Still going strong after releasing three platinum albums, the band released their ninth studio record, “Black Is the New Black,” in 2015.
Having toured with notable artists like No Doubt, Garbage and The Offspring, Lit spent the second half of the ’90s in the spotlight. Their breakthrough single, “My Own Worst Enemy,” held the No. 1 position on the Billboard Hot Modern Rock charts for 11 weeks, earning them the 1999 Billboard Music Award for “Biggest Modern Rock Song.”
The evening kicks off with alternative rock group Sponge, whose 1994 debut album, “Rotting Pinata,” was certified gold. The band’s biggest hit, “Molly (16 Candles Down the Drain),” appeared at No. 3 on the Billboard Hot Modern Rock charts, and their music has also been featured in soundtracks for ‘90s classics “Mallrats” and “The Craft.”
